Latest Completed Units / Projects/ WIP 2021 (Hobby Post)
Here I will post updates on the latest wargames units / projects I have added to my hobby collection and also work in progress. Newest entries at the top.
02/05/21 - Ancient German Warriors 1/32 Scale. Latest batch of figures for my Ancient German army. These are mainly conversions from Weston Mexican Peasants plus one or two others.
I use these as the rear rank stands for my 8 base warband units. The front ranks being taken up by somewhat larger and more detailed figures from the likes of Expeditionary Force and Del Prado etc... Size mix seems to work ok.
On these instead of my longstanding black wash I tried a watered down solution made up of Vallejo Matt varnish and satin ink. Quite like it so may well stick with it now.
You can see more of my 1/32 scale ancients here: 1/32 scale blog
Below: Piraumont Farm. Quatre Bras.
Below: Chateau de Looz. Ligny
09/04/21 - 60mm Early Germans. Mainly Expeditionary Force from the command set with a trio of Russian made Viking beserkers for company. I'll use the figures as leaders for my Warbands etc...
26/03/21 - Napoleonic British Light Infantry. Mostly 1/72 scale HaT. Bought off ebay ready painted. I just based them.
25/03/21 Hougoumont. Originally scratch built by Chris Dodson and recently reassembled, based and completed by me. Blog post here: Hougoumont
22/03/21 La Haye Sainte. Completed. See blog post here: La Haye Sainte
13/03/21 La Haye Sainte & Hougoumont. In parallel with basing the Chris Dodson collection I have also been working up models for Hougoumont & La Haye Sainte. Most of the main buildings for the former are by Chris so I just need to complete it. For La Haye Sainte as I have used the Airfix kit for pretty much everything but it's original purpose I thought it time I right that wrong.
Below: La Haye Sainte assembled, some changes made and now awaiting painting.
Below: Formal Garden for Hougoumont. The base is 2mm MDF picture backing board. To join boards together I just used Bostik All Purpose glue and paper. The squares will be raised lawn sections and are 7cm square MDF bases that I normally use for my 54mm troops. It's quite a but smaller than a scaled down version of the real thing would be but compromises always have to be made.
06/03/21 - Quatre Bras & Ligny Napoleonic Buildings. Last month I was fortunate enough to purchase Chris Dodson's wonderful collection of scratch built farms and other buildings. You may well have seen his work on Bennos Forum, TMP and the HaT forum.
Chris used a sand table for his 1/72 scale battle refights so none of the buildings were based - which I will need for my games. I am now in the process of basing them and when finished will do a blog post each for Quatre Bras, for Ligny and also one for Hougoumont.
In the meantime here's Gemioncourt Farm, Quatre Bras - with an as yet unpainted & untextured base.
And here's En Haut Farm, Ligny. Again with an as yet unpainted & untextured base.
02/03/21 - Ancient German Beserkers. 60mm. These are Eaglemoss metal partwork Uruk-Hai figure conversions!
17/02/21 - Papelotte & Mont St Jean Farm. Now completed.
07/02/21 - Papelotte & Mont St Jean Farm. Work underway.
I am on a bit of a roll just now with my conversions of the Airfix La Haye Sainte Farmhouse kit. This time I have moved on from Quatre Bras to Waterloo - stepping things up a gear building both Papelotte and the Mont St Jean Farm at the same time.
Below: Papelotte. A bastion on the left flank of Wellington's position garrisoned by Nassau troops for much of the battle.
Neither farm complex has yet been glued to it's base hence looking a bit wonky in places. Also some gap filling still to be done. Easier to paint in several pieces than all in one. I will put up a full blog post for each when painted and finished.
Below: Mont St. Jean Farm. 600m north of the 'Elm Tree' Crossroads in the centre of Wellington's position. Used as a field hospital.
05/02/21 - Expeditionary Force 60mm Early German Command & Clubmen.
Some minor conversions - Del Prado shields and a couple of hammers from 60mm Lord of the Rings figures. The big round shields are more Viking than Early German but I liked them and wanted my commanders to stand out.
Below - Clubmen. These are for my Early German army but I think they are originally from the Celtic Civilians set.
25/1/21 - Expeditionary Force 60mm Early Germans. Below are a couple of pics of the latest recruits to my Ancient German wargames army. Just need basing on the 7cm square mdf bases I use for gaming with the Hail Caesar rules now.
All shields are conversions plus some heads and weapons.
