Airfix Waterloo La Haye Sainte Farmhouse - Quatre Bras Farm Conversion
Welcome to the second in a so far very infrequent series of blog posts on conversions made from the 1/72 scale Airfix La Haye Sainte kit.
About 4 years ago I did my first on Gemioncourt and now rather belatedly is a second on the Quatre Bras Farm.

I based it's design on much more detailed models I saw on the internet representing how the farm looked in 1815 rather than on the more modern farm complex - now demolished I believe - that made it into the 21st Century.
The wooden shed is the best idea I could easily come up with to represent what should be a small brick extension to the main house. I had a spare additional chicken coup enabling me to make the right sort of shape when put back to back albeit in wood.
As with my
Gemioncourt conversion I raided my bits box for doors and window frames. The La Haye Sainte kit I had was missing the very useful corner roof section so I had to improvise and use some pantile roof sections with a matchstick ridge.
The 3mm MDF base measures only 23.5cm x 18cm so it is quite a compact scenic piece.
On a couple of walls I used brick plastic sheet to cover up gaps or problem areas. I also used match sticks for the main house courtyard door surround where the original porchway was taken off.
I used Vallejo Game Color paints and Javis brushes, lichen & static grass.
Prince of Orange for scale.
Below: Overhead shot shows you the layout.
Below are a couple of photos of the model before painting.
Unlike Gemioncourt which was in the thick of the action on June 16th 1815 I believe the Quatre Bras farm was mainly used as a field hospital. Even so it makes a good tabletop objective for the French to aim for and can of course be used in plenty of other scenarios - Napoleonic and up to WW2 for example.

Unfortunately I have long ago sold out of the La Haye Sainte Airfix kits but I do still have some of the vac form bases the farmhouse was designed to sit on: Diorama Base
