I love the A Call to Arms 1:32 scale (54mm) Roman set - apart from the positioning of the shields.
So I tried cutting off the original shields and replacing with some factory painted Safari ones I had in my spares box.
I think these look much better (from the front at least) and they are now ready to have a few skirmishes with my Ancient Germans (TSSD) and Ancient Celts (Converted Weston Mexican Peasants). To my mind the Romans should be a bit shorter than their enemies and by using these makes it works out well.
Based on 40mm metal washers. Painted using Vallejo Game Color Acyrlics - Romans Paint Set
When I do some more of these chaps I may try using Greenstuff to make the arms a bit better where the original shields were cut off. I may also attempt a pilum carrying conversion.
Original unpainted sprue with shields as they come out the box. You get 4 identical sprues of 4 figures each per box. Great value for money.
